sandworms by pollux101 sandworms by pollux101
a fast painting of the sandworms, you know from Frank Herberts dune novels.
I saw a documentation about sea fishes and one had some skin lappets between its jawbones to impress his enemies.
Why not transfer this to the imposing worms? ;)

Bless the Maker and His water... bless His comings and goings... may His passage cleanse the world, may He hold the world for his people!!! :) Ha ha, nice work, the idea of the worms having skin lappets is funny... but they were already pretty intimidating to begin with. ;) Not sure if there is anything they really need to scare, everybody except the Fremen already are.

This book's been on my to-read list for way too long. This picture is making me want to finish Foundation faster so I can get to Herbert's work. Simply fantastic work.

Your whole gallery is just great, actually. Love your paintings. :)

I am simultaneously terrified and impressed. Very nice to see an original take on the sandworms.

Yay!
Dune is one of the best books and definitely one of the best books I've ever read.

Such an awesome universe Herbert created. And the sandworms were always a highlight of that world.

Cheers,
Cass

I love it! The sandworms are one of the greatest Sci-Fi concepts of all time - from one of the most incredible books I've ever read!

absolutely and thanks! I liked the following books, too, and the Lynch film.

I agree on all counts! My only complaint with the David Lynch's Dune is the ornithopter. Maybe at the time (pre-CG, using only miniatures) it wasn't possible to do that. But the film is incredibly original.
I also love John Schoenherr's paintings for the "Illustrated Dune" - they were reprinted in a 1978 calender I found on eBay :)

you're right!
when I'm not mistaken its wings were described like wings of a dragonfly or a bee.
somebody should do a remake, but a good one ;)

I actually made an ornithopter in 3D - but not with a lot of detail. I made a flying animation for it - it seemed promising, but I didn't go any further with it.

In the book, it's described kind of like a light helicopter that took of with 2-3 powerful beat of the wings, and soared like a dragonfly.

What an amazing creation the whole Dune story is :) !!!

Scary worm ^^Love the dynamics of the diagonal horizon. Makes me feel like I'm in a warplane making some maneuver toward the sand worm.
